India reopens Tourist Visa for Chinese citizens after five-year freeze

23 Nov 2025

India has decided to resume granting tourist visas to Chinese citizens, putting an end to a five-year freeze that was imposed in 2020.

India has restarted issuing tourist visas to Chinese individuals from July 24, 2025, marking a major diplomatic development. This will put an end to a five-year freeze that began due to the border tensions in Eastern Ladakh and the outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The action represents a cautious but significant part in solidifying the India-China relations, particularly with regard to people-to-people connectivity.
