The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently mandated that all E-Commerce companies accurately classify beverage drinks. The directive prohibits E-Commerce platforms from labeling cereal-based, dairy-based, or malt-based beverages as "Energy Based Drinks" or "Health Drinks." In accordance with the country's food laws, the directive aims to ensure the appropriate and precise definition of "Health Drinks."
Online Food and Beverage Sales Regulation by FSSAI
As per the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, food safety encompasses ensuring that food is suitable for human consumption and meets all associated purposes. Accordingly, the FSSAI emphasizes food safety through proper handling, preparation, and storage methods to prevent the occurrence of foodborne illnesses. Beverages and bars are also included in these guidelines to ensure compliance with food standards.
