India has achieved the second rank globally in fish production , with a 103% growth in 2024–25 compared to 2013–14, announced Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh in Kolkata.
India's fish production has indeed seen remarkable growth, reaching 195 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, which is more than double the production in 2013-14. According to Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, this growth reflects the success of the country's 'Blue Revolution' initiative.
Growth Rate: Fish production has grown by 103% since 2013-14, with inland fisheries and aquaculture experiencing a 140% increase.
Global Ranking: India is now the second-largest fish producer globally.
Shrimp Production: Shrimp production has jumped by 270% over the last decade, making India a global leader in shrimp exports.
Seafood Exports: Seafood exports have crossed Rs 60,500 crore, further solidifying India's position in the global market.
Government Investment: The government has invested Rs 38,572 crore in the fisheries sector since 2015, supporting initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to boost fish production and improve sectoral sustainability.
